Today was a special Lord’s Day. We were focusing on the “persecuted church” and our guest speaker was Malcolm Macleod of Steadfast Global: http://www.steadfastglobal.org/.
Malcolm spoke from Matthew 14 vs 1-21, contrasting the 2 kings we find there: the people-pleasing, impulsive and proud puppet king Herod; and the gracious, generous, compassionate, Saviour-King Jesus.
We also heard first-hand reports from Malcolm about what is happening in places such as Asia and East Africa. It was thrilling to see the growth of the church in the midst of persecution. Yes, the homes of some believers have been burned to the ground, but the church is growing rapidly in some places.
It was clear to us that Steadfast Global are a “dirty hands” organisation, seeking to help in practical ways, from encouraging the persecuted church, to giving out micro-loans, and from trauma counselling to sending skilled teams to help those in need. It was our privilege to be able to pray for what we had been hearing about.
A lovely lunch followed the service. It was good to be together, to get to know Malcolm a bit better, and to reflect on all that we had heard. A big thanks to Jennifer for co-ordinating the morning, and to Malcolm for coming and preaching and sharing. We hope it will stimulate our prayers and that God will take the collection gathered and multiply it many times, for the benefit of the persecuted church. We look forward to the next missionary focus lunch!
