Last night some of us headed through to St Columba’s Free Church in Edinburgh for Thomas Davis’ induction as assistant minister there. He joins a team including senior minister Derek Lamont, ministry apprentice, Calum Cameron, and a large team of elders and deacons.
As well as preaching and pastoral work amongst the church family in St C’s, Thomas will also be continuing his doctoral studies and doing some Church History lecturing at ETS.
It was the quickest ordination in history- all done and dusted in 50 minutes- but not without substance. This year’s Presbytery Moderator, Jeremy Ross, challenged the St C’s church to love one another, using the famous passage from 1 Corinthians 13. It was practical advice which we all need reminding of, in order to maintain the unity and effectiveness of a church.
Let’s pray for the Davis family:
-that they’d settle into life in Edinburgh, which is quite a contrast to Lewis,
-that the children would get on well in their new schools,
– that God would continue to pour out his blessing on St Columba’s and their church plants,
– and that Thomas would be equipped by God for all the new tasks which lie before him.
